What is CompTIA Security+?

CompTIA Security+ is a globally recognised foundational cybersecurity certification. It validates the core skills required for any cybersecurity role across threats and vulnerabilities, security architecture, security operations, and governance, risk, and compliance. The current version of the exam is SY0-701, released by CompTIA in November 2023.

Security+ is the most widely held cybersecurity certification worldwide and is recognised across Australian government and private-sector cyber roles. It is approved by the U.S. Department of Defense under the DoD 8140 framework (which superseded DoD 8570.01-M) for a range of cyber workforce roles. Full details are on the official CompTIA Security+ certification page.

Where to buy a Security+ voucher, and what sellers charge

The voucher code is the same wherever you buy it. Only the price and the service around it change. CompTIA raised its exam prices on 1 June 2026, so figures published before then are out of date. Prices below verified 14 July 2026.

  • The CompTIA Store (buying direct). US$439 for the SY0-701 voucher, up from US$425. Billed in USD, so a card outside the US also pays its own conversion margin, and there is no local tax invoice.
  • Mindset Cyber (CompTIA Authorised Partner). A$599 + GST (A$658.90 inc. GST) for the single voucher, or A$799 + GST (A$878.90 inc. GST) with Retake Assurance. That is a fixed price in your own currency, charged exactly as shown, and it is less than buying direct from CompTIA.
  • Unauthorised resellers. Cheaper listings exist. The risk is that the code is grey-market or expired, and CompTIA will not help you if it fails at Pearson VUE. Only an Authorised Partner code is generated against a real partner account.

We are an Authorised Partner, so the code you get from us is the one CompTIA would have issued you itself.

Which exam version will you sit, SY0-701 or SY0-801?

Buy for SY0-701. It is the current, live version of the Security+ exam and it is what your voucher will be used for.

A successor is expected. Training providers and the CompTIA Instructors Network have discussed an SY0-801 landing in late 2026, adding coverage of large language models and AI-assisted attacks. CompTIA has not confirmed an exam code, a beta date, or a launch date, so treat every date you see online as a rumour, including ours. We will update this page when CompTIA publishes something.

What that means practically: CompTIA vouchers are version-agnostic and valid 12 months from issue, and when CompTIA does retire a version it normally runs the old and new exams side by side for around six months. Buying now does not lock you out. If you are ready to study, sitting SY0-701 while it is current is the lower-risk path.

Why buy your CompTIA Security+ voucher from Mindset Cyber

  • CompTIA Authorised Partner. Voucher codes generated direct via the official CompTIA partner programme. Same official voucher as buying direct from CompTIA.

  • PECB Platinum Partner. The same Mindset Cyber operations team that delivers our PECB ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 training.
  • Email delivery within 24 hours. Your voucher code is emailed to you within 24 hours of payment.
  • Optional Retake Assurance. For first-time candidates who want a safety net on a single voucher purchase.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a CompTIA Security+ exam voucher in Australia?

A$599 + GST (A$658.90 inc. GST) for a single SY0-701 voucher, or A$799 + GST (A$878.90 inc. GST) for the Voucher + Retake Assurance bundle. Australian buyers receive a GST tax invoice; orders from outside Australia are GST-free exports.

Do you provide a GST tax invoice?

Australian buyers are charged 10% GST and receive a GST tax invoice under ABN 55 668 364 261, suitable for employer or business reimbursement. Orders from outside Australia are GST-free exports, and you receive a tax invoice showing no GST.

Is this an official CompTIA voucher?

Yes. Mindset Cyber is a CompTIA Authorised Partner. The voucher code we deliver is generated by CompTIA and is identical to one bought direct from the CompTIA Store.

How quickly will I receive the voucher?

Within 24 hours of successful payment. The voucher code is emailed to the address you provide at checkout. We pull each code from the CompTIA partner portal on demand and confirm it to you by email.

How long is the voucher valid?

12 months from the date of issue. You can schedule and sit the Security+ (SY0-701) exam any time within that window, in person or via online proctoring.

Can I take the exam online?

Yes. Schedule the exam through Pearson VUE and choose OnVUE online proctoring, paying with your exam voucher at the Review and Pay step. You can also sit the exam in person at any Pearson VUE testing centre globally.

What if I fail the exam?

If you bought the Voucher + Retake Assurance option at A$799 + GST (A$878.90 inc. GST), your second attempt is free. If you bought the single voucher and need to retake, you will need to purchase another voucher. We recommend the Retake Assurance option for first-time candidates.

What is the difference between Security+ and other CompTIA certs?

Security+ is the foundational cybersecurity certification from CompTIA. It sits between A+/Network+ (IT entry) and CySA+/PenTest+ (cybersecurity specialisations). For Australian cybersecurity professionals, Security+ is the most commonly required entry-level credential.

Where can I sit the exam?

Anywhere. You book through Pearson VUE and apply the voucher code at checkout, then sit the exam at any Pearson VUE testing centre globally, or via OnVUE online proctoring from anywhere with a stable internet connection.

What is the difference between the Single User and Retake Assurance options?

The Single User voucher gives one person one attempt at the SY0-701 exam for A$599 + GST (A$658.90 inc. GST). The Retake Assurance option at A$799 + GST (A$878.90 inc. GST) is the same voucher plus a second voucher that we issue if you fail the first attempt and send us proof. If you pass on the first try, the second voucher is simply not issued. The price difference reflects the safety net only.

Do you offer Security+ training, or just the voucher?

Mindset Cyber currently offers Security+ vouchers only. For exam preparation we recommend a structured study path: the official CompTIA CertMaster Learn (sold direct by CompTIA), Professor Messer's free Security+ video course, and timed practice questions through any reputable provider. If you are also pursuing the ISO 27001 Lead Auditor or Lead Implementer track for compliance roles, see our PECB course range.

How does Security+ compare to ISO 27001 Lead Auditor?

Security+ validates foundational, vendor-neutral cybersecurity skills across threats, architecture, operations, and governance. ISO 27001 Lead Auditor validates the ability to plan and conduct ISMS audits against the ISO 27001 standard. They cover different problem spaces: Security+ is the operational security foundation, ISO 27001 LA is the audit and compliance layer. Many Australian cybersecurity careers hold both. See our PECB ISO 27001 Lead Auditor course for the audit pathway. For the implementer-side comparison, see our Security+ vs ISO 27001 Lead Implementer guide.
